- Veterinary Cardiology

Dr. Yu & Yang(Pekingese)
Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with medical conditions of the heart and cardiovascular system.
Dogs and cats, young or old, either obtain heart problems with age(acquired heart disease), or they have it before birth(congenital heart disease).
Our specialty trained veterinary cardiologist will utilize the latest techniques to diagnose and treat these wide ranges of cardiovascular disease, quickly(with minimal stress) and with precision.

In Japan there are only about 150 board certified veterinarians, and Dr. Yu, our hospital administrator, is one of those Animal Cardiovascular Medical Society Qualified Cardiologists.
She is here full time (being our administrator), so if your dog/cat has trouble breathing, has fatigue, or has been diagnosed with a heart disease/murmur, please visit our in house cardiology specialist.

- Veterinary Orthopedics
-Dr. Yasukawa:PhD Degree in Veterinary Orthopedic Surgery-

Our orthopedics department diagnoses and treats a wide variety of bone and muscle related diseases, from broken bones to lameness.
Our veterinary orthopedic specialist Dr. Yasukawa has a PhD degree in veterinary surgery, and has written one of the most read papers worldwide, on medial patellar luxations(MPLs) of small breed dogs.
He is not only a specialist in MPLs, but has performed over 1700 surgeries ranging from spinal surgeries, fractures, luxations and of course knee joint abnormalities.

Surgery is not the only option available for orthopedic diseases, and Dr. Yasukawa will present you with multiple treatments so you can choose the best possible treatment for the patients and families.
He will be on call every other Sunday twice a month, and also as our consultant, we can ask for his consultation everyday, so if your dog/cat has trouble moving around, or seems to have pain somewhere, please consult with our specialist.

- Veterinary Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology treats problems of the eyes, including loss of vision, tumors, ulcers etc., by medications and sometimes surgery, all done by our veterinary ophthalmology specialist Dr. Terakado.
There are only 28 specialists in Japan with the title Diplomate of the Japanese College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, and our specialist Dr. Terakado is one of them.
Dogs and cats cannot speak, so it is hard to notice that they are losing vision, or they have something that is bugging them in or around their eyes.

Performing an examination
Our specialist, Dr. Terakado, will catch their nonverbal cues, and will offer comprehensive evaluations, advanced diagnostics and both medical and surgical treatment options for your beloved family members.
So if your dog/cats have red and teary eyes or it just feels like their eyes are bugging them, call on our ophthalmologist, and he will figure out and solve their problems.

- Veterinary Oncology

Recent studies show that a dog/cat’s life span is getting longer, due to advances in veterinary medicine, which resulted in the increase of tumor and related diseases.
Dr. Sasaki is one of the only 51 specialists in Japan, a Japan Veterinary Cancer Society Board Certified Specialist Class Ⅰ.
The board certified specialists are separated in two classes, the difference being that classⅠ specialists are of course required to know the basics of the tumors, but they are certified to properly diagnose and treat the tumors, both by medicine and surgery.

Treating tumors is a hard process for both the pets and their families, Dr. Sasaki will provide you with a proper diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment strategies, so your dog/cat and families can come to a conclusion that is the most preferable for all of you.

So we provide you with various experts in their field, and they will give you top level medicine, at the very same HALU Animal Hospital, without needing to search for other experts at another hospital.
Most of them are English speakers, but to help you out throughout the process, our English speaking veterinarians and staff will also be of assistance.
